Today my plan is to finish our exposition of this marvelous letter of James, a book
that I find myself turning to over and over again to stay in touch with the things that
really matter in Christian living. James began this book by encouraging his readers to pray and ask God for wisdom to help them endure the persecution they are experiencing. He is going to conclude the book again by referring to prayer and its importance in the life of the church at large. Churches facing hostility in particular need to find ways to exercise ministry even while they are the targets of satanic attacks. And so he provides them with what they need in these closing five verses on prayer.
In fact, prayer is the only way to deal with three major issues that every church faces sooner or later. These difficulties require supernatural responses to be credible. So, I have given the title “Supernatural Christianity” as the summary of what I will have to say this morning.
